Nearshore from Colombia: what seven years taught us
Seven years operating nearshore, connecting engineering talent from Colombia with clients across North and South America. What makes it work.
For seven years we have operated with a nearshore model, connecting exceptional talent from Colombia with clients across North and South America. Here is what we have learned about making it work.
Shared hours, shared pace
Working in time zones close to our clients means real-time collaboration: the same working day, the same stand-ups, the same pace.
Questions get answered the same afternoon, not the next morning. A blocked task costs hours instead of days, and decisions happen in conversation rather than in long email threads.
100% remote, 100% connected
Remote work only works with discipline. Clear rituals, honest communication and deep respect for everyone’s time are what keep a distributed team aligned.
The rituals themselves are simple:
- A short daily check-in with the client team, at a time that suits both sides.
- Written summaries of every decision, so nothing depends on memory.
- Demos at the end of each iteration, where the client sees working software, not slides.
Discipline creates freedom.
When the routine is reliable, people have the freedom to focus on the hard problems instead of chasing status updates.
Talent and continuity
Colombia has a deep pool of engineers with experience in modern stacks, from Node.js and Python to mobile development for iOS and Android. We invest in keeping teams together over the long ride, because product context is one of the most valuable things an engineer brings to a project.
Is nearshore right for you?
Nearshore works best when you want a team that feels like an extension of yours, working in your hours and in your tools. If that sounds like what you need, tell us about your platform.
